A Few Photos From The Lake Como Workshop…

I’m finally over the jetlag, and finding time to correct and post a few photos from my August Workshop at Lake Como for the International Center of Photography. This has taken a little longer than usual, because I’m also just finishing up an all-new location workflow video series that I hope to have posted by early October! The series was scripted using 12 days of location shooting in Italy as the basis, and you’ll see the entire shoot in the new series.

This workshop was completely different than last year’s workshop in Venice. Lake Como is a fabulous place, but does not just reveal itself to the photographic eye the way Venice does. So I feel that this workshop was a much greater challenge for the students, visually. Of course, they all rose to the challenge, and created a beautiful portrait of Villa Cipressi, the town of Varenna, and of course, the lake and its surrounding mountains.

Looking Into Switzerland

Looking west into Switzerland from high above the Lake Como town of Bellano. And yes, that is the Matterhorn you see poking up on the left side, in the distance.

After the workshop I took a day to visit Milan—my first time visiting that city. The Duomo was stunning. We had good weather, but I’m still kicking myself for not taking my tripod and pano gear, because this quick, off-the-cuff handheld pano turns out to be one of my favorite photos from the entire trip.

Finally, our organizer Monica and the folks at Experience Plus Tours deserve credit for making this workshop effortless, fun and rewarding for everyone. I’m actually thinking about taking a bike tour!

The Milan photograph in particular is stunning. Beautiful city, and a fabulous contrast to Como. I was lucky enough to watch Italy play in the World Cup on a massive screen in that very piazza (Piazza del Duomo Milano) a few years ago. Great atmosphere, great memories.

I felt as if I was looking at someone’s travel photos except that yours were stunning! Wow…I wish I had been there.

George… the photos look great. Now I’m really sorry I didn’t come to Italy…

I’m in for the new video series. Sounds just like what I picked your brains for several years ago. I still haven’t figured out a smooth location workflow so I’m really looking forward to this.

Great pictures. There is nothing else to say, I like the way you shoot and present them.

Wow! The panorama is a breathtaking shot, the shot looking west into Switzerland from high above Bellano is really nice too. Great work!
