When it came time to update the Lightroom Library Video Workshop, the 5.0 release presented a bit of a quandary for me. My new Develop videos clearly benefited from a more-or-less complete overhaul, and they have been very well received. But then again, Develop is where most of the new features are concentrated.
On the other hand, the poor Library module didn’t see all that much love in 5.0, aside from the astonishingly useful addition of Smart Previews. But Smart Previews don’t really change anything about the way you work, or about the way the Library works, unless you use them as proxies for your Photo Library when you go on location.
I didn’t want to tear apart the entire series and start scripting again just to cover one major new feature. Especially because—in the long run—I feel pretty sure that I want to re-write the Library videos from the ground up, when I combine them with the Catalog Management videos for a bit of a change in direction.
So I went for plan B. I updated the video series for 5.0 with just two videos, and rolled them right into the existing Lightroom 4 Library series, as a free update. For those of you who previously purchased the online version of Library 4 videos, this update will be there waiting for you when you log in. If you prefer downloads, just send me an e-mail request, and I’ll gladly send you the links.
For those of you who never purchased the Library 4 videos, 100% of the information contained in the existing videos is still perfectly applicable to Lightroom 5. With the addition of two new videos detailing the new features, the complete series is now 18 videos with over 7 hours of instruction.
The Library DVD for Amazon will be updated with these new videos shortly. If you previously purchased the Library 4 DVD on Amazon, send me an e-mail with your Amazon transaction number, and I’ll gladly send you download links for the 2 new videos.
